Nonnegotiable Steps in My Skincare Routine

Hey! How’s it going? How’s life? How’s your week? How about your summer, how’s that?

Please, tell, tell, tell! Give me the low down of what you’ve been up to lately.

As for me, not too much. Just trying to figure out what my niche is, and one of them is skin. I may not have the best skin anyone has ever seen, but I sure do my research and put time into my skin every single day.

Want to be let in on a secret? I’ve been washing and moisturizing my face since I was in elementary school. Seriously, I can’t lie about this! I was around 9 years old when my mom was basically like “hun, washing your face is a habit you want to do twice a day. It’s going to help prevent teenage acne and it’s good hygiene.” I didn’t question her. She was my role model (still is). If she lathered her skin in lotion everyday, I did too. I started this super young, too! & it’s paid off. I have yet to have dry skin. She wore her hair long, I did too. She wore bras, I did too. But I would wear her bras and dress up in her clothes, LOL! I would have to tie the bras and clothes with a ponytail so they’d stay on my tiny child body.

Moral of the story, she was right. Washing and moisturizing my face at a young age really did help prevent acne during my teenage years. I was that friend that’d bring my face wash and moisturizer over to sleepovers and my friends would be like “what are you doing?” So I’d tell them what’s up, you know?

Anyways, I haven’t changed when it comes to taking care of my skin. I’ve improved the products I use but I still care about my skin (if not more) than I ever have. Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.

There are 3 steps I cannot go without doing every single morning.

First Step Includes:

First step is washing my face with a gentle cleanser. I like to use cleansers that have safe ingredients, not harsh ones, and ones that cruelty free. My face needs to be washed, no matter what. I feel like a new person when I pat my skin dry after washing my face.

Second Step Includes:

My second step that’s nonnegotiable is hydrating my skin. That means applying a serum. Here’s a little tip: if you use a serum and a moisturizer in the mornings, put the serum on first to hydrate the skin to get into the pores and then put on your moisturizer. Moisturizers are a lot thicker than serums, so serums should go on first otherwise they won’t penetrate well enough through the moisturizer. I’ve been using the InstaNatural vitamin c serum and I love it! My serum has hyaluronic acid, which hydrates internally by holding water in the skin and then plumps the skin. It also has Vitamin E, which stimulates collagen & is an antioxidant. Do whatever serum works for you. Some may prefer an anti-aging serum or one that has glycolic acid in it.

Third Step Includes:

This final nonnegotiable step might be my favorite. It includes using my jade roller. The jade roller is for lymphatic drainage, and it does wonders to your face when you’re consistent with it. Jade rolling reduces fine lines, tighten the facial skin while minimizing the puffiness. It promotes blood circulation and reduces the signs of dark circles under your eyes.

When rolling, you always want to go in an upward motion. Never bring it downwards, unless you’re doing it to your neck. So essentially, you go up and out, then do the same motion over and over until you’ve done your entire face. And for under your eyes, you’ll want to start at the nose and go out, but still with an upward motion. I do this for 5-10 minutes every morning and I feel like it really does the tighten your face right up.

There you have it, my little secret tricks I can’t go without doing every morning! You can find more about my skincare routine from this post!

What’s does your morning skincare routine look like?
