Good morning, Friday! As I was thinking about what today’s post should consist of, I realized I haven’t written a post regarding my morning routine in quarantine. If you follow along on Instagram, then you know I speak about this a lot on my page.
I live for a solid routine, especially one that’s for the mornings. I strongly believe it’s vital to have a structured morning that sets you up for success for the day- one that’s providing you some clarity. You just can’t beat a morning that starts out peaceful but is still efficient, you know?
I think it’s important to be detailed with this routine but also be transparent. What I mean by that is that sometimes this routine doesn’t happen exactly this way. Some days I only do part of the routine & some days other things get thrown into the mix and it just doesn’t get done at all. & truthfully, sometimes this morning routine goes into the afternoon, lol. I’m not perfect, my days don’t go perfectly, & shit just happens. So this morning routine is my ideal morning when I have the time to complete all of it.
+ Wake up time is 7am to 7:30am. Then immediately brush my teeth (will oil pull once a week before brushing my teeth), open the blinds, & love on Poseidon & Zeus.
+ Then I get back into bed and read the Stoic page for the day & write out my morning pages. My morning pages consist of this: 6 tasks I need to complete for the day, 3 things I’m grateful for, 3 people I’m sending happiness to, 3 things that have to get done, 3 ways I want to feel, & half of a page of whatever is on my mind.
+ While still laying in bed, I love to get 5-10 minutes of reading in. This is the step that I don’t always do but love when I get the chance. I’m reading an actual book. Sometimes it’s a self-help book or it’s fiction.
+ Finally, I make my bed, splash some water on my face/do light skincare, complete my chores around the home, & make my cold brew or whipped coffee. I’m completing all of this by 9:30am to 10am.
Like I said, sometimes things get thrown into the mix and maybe I decide to get a work out in before I do my chores or I decide to edit a youtube video before I write my morning pages. You can see that what I’m NOT doing is checking my phone. Absolutely no scrolling on social media.
When I’m checking social media as soon as I wake up, I’m focusing on what everyone else is doing. I’m subconsciously comparing/admiring/wishing/consumed (whatever you want to call it) with everyone else. Before I know it, I’ve spent an hour of pointless scrolling & where did it get me? Do I even remember half of what I saw?
I also noticed that if I start my day out on social media, then I seem to spend so much more time on it while I’m going about my day. In reality, I don’t want to spend 4 hours scrolling on Instagram- that time & energy can be allocated to so many other things. Don’t get me wrong, I find a lot of inspiration & motivation from social media. I get the opportunity to connect with people I wouldn’t have the chance to connect with otherwise. It can offer up a lot good. I just prefer to not get sucked in because then I lose sight of myself.
If you take anything from the post, have it be to not start your day on social media. The one thing I love most about my morning routine are my morning pages. Writing those each morning honestly releases so much built up anxiety or tension I may have. All of the thoughts going through my head are able to get out because I’m writing them down. & it shifts my focus to being more positive because I’m focusing on what I’m grateful for, who I’m sending happiness to, etc.
Feel free to check out my May Intentions post that I posted a few days ago- it’s a good one.
xx, Aubrianna
